Mental Attitude: Encourage Positive Body Image for Teens. 
The United States Office on Women’s Health offers these tips to parents in order to help their child develop a positive body image: avoid negative statements about food, weight, body size, and shape; allow your child to make decisions about food, but make sure to have healthy options available; help your child understand that weight gain is a normal part of growing up, especially during puberty; compliment your child on their efforts, talents, and accomplishments; limit television viewing to reduce its effects on your child; encourage your child’s school to develop policies against size and sexual discrimination, harassment, teasing, and name calling; and keep open lines of communication with your child.

Health Alert: “Apple” Body Shape Raises Risk of Heart Attack in Women. 
Women with extra fat around the midsection are up to 15% more likely to have a heart attack than women who carry excess fat in other parts of the body. Lead researcher Dr. Sanne Peters adds, “Our findings show that looking at how fat tissue is distributed in the body—especially in women—can give us more insight into the risk of heart attack than general measures of obesity, such as body mass index.”

Diet: Vitamin D May Affect Cardiovascular Death Risk. 
The National Institutes of Health notes that vitamin D3 serum levels of 50–125 nanomoles per liter (nmol/l) are considered adequate for bone and overall health. An analysis of blood samples from 4,114 adults suggests that vitamin D blood concentrations lower than 42 nmol/l or higher than 100 nmol/l may increase the risk of death from cardiovascular disease by up to 30%.

Exercise: Most Exercise Is Safe During Pregnancy. 
An analysis of data from twelve studies that included over 300 females during different stages of pregnancy found that women can safely perform high-intensity aerobic exercise for up to 35 minutes in temperatures up to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees Celsius) and humidity of 45%. The investigators also concluded that expectant mothers can safely participate in aqua-aerobic exercise in water temperatures that range from 83.8 degrees to 92.1 degrees Fahrenheit (28.77 to 33.39 degrees Celsius) for up to 45 minutes. These findings should put pregnant women who exercise at ease regarding their concern over raising their body temperature to a point that may put their baby at risk.

Chiropractic: Risk Factors for Chronic Whiplash Symptoms. 
For patients who have suffered a whiplash injury, a new research review concludes that the risk of developing chronic neck pain and/or disability increases with the following: poor expectations of recovery, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and passive coping. On the other hand, the review also notes the risk for chronicity is not heightened by anxiety, depression, personality, pre-collision distress, general psychological distress, or avoidance behaviors.

Wellness/Prevention: Preventing Sleep Interruptions. 
The National Sleep Foundation offers the following tips to help keep noises from disturbing your sleep: use a fan, air conditioner, or a white noise machine to mask jarring noises that could wake you; if you live near a airport or a busy street, use white noise to reduce your chances of waking; and turn the TV off when you go to bed, as the sounds a television makes vary in tone and volume, which can interrupt sleep.
