Mental Attitude: Tooth Loss May Be Risk Factor for Dementia. 
Japanese researchers monitored the cognitive health of 140 seniors and found that participants with fewer than ten teeth at the start of the study were over three times more likely to develop dementia during the next four years.

Health Alert: Too Much Screen Time Causes Kids to Pack on the Pounds. 
According to a research review, teenagers who spend more than two hours of recreational time in front of a screen each day (television, computer, smartphone, or tablet) are nearly two times more likely to be overweight or obese. The findings suggest that limiting screen time to less than two hours per day could help reduce obesity among children and the risks associated of excess weight such as heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems.

Diet: Can Improving Vitamin D Levels Aid in Weight Loss? 
Past research has shown that a relationship exists between increased body mass index (BMI) and vitamin D deficiency. This study sought to identify what would occur if overweight individuals were given a supplement to improve their vitamin D levels. Among a group of 50 overweight/obese women, those provided with a weekly 50,000 IU dose of vitamin D for six weeks experienced improvements in their weight, BMI, and waist circumference.

Exercise: Exercising Too Much in a Day May Not Be Beneficial to Mental Health. 
Exercise has been linked to improved mental health, but is there a point at which exercise can have the opposite effect? In a study involving over 1.2 million adults, researchers found that participants who exercised for more than three hours a day reported worse mental health than those who did not exercise at all. The researchers suspect that people who perform extreme amounts of exercise may have obsessive characteristics that could place them at greater risk for poor mental health.

Chiropractic: Manual Therapy Benefits Knee Arthritis. 
Experts estimate that osteoarthritis of the knee affects at least 9% of adults over the age of 60. An analysis of data from eleven randomized trials found that the combination of exercise and manual therapies is associated with statistically significant improvements in both pain and function. Doctors of chiropractic routinely treat knee osteoarthritis patients with a combination of exercises, manual therapies, and nutritional recommendations.

Wellness/Prevention: Overcoming Fatigue. 
Being tired now and then is normal, but feeling fatigued after a good night’s sleep can be a sign of underlying health issues. The National Institute on Aging notes that medications, medical problems, and mental health issues can lead to frequent or constant fatigue. If you struggle with fatigue, try these suggestions: keep a diary to help find patterns during the day when you feel fatigued, exercise regularly, avoid napping longer than 30 minutes later in the day, stop smoking, and ask for help if you feel overwhelmed.
