Mental Attitude: Concussion Increases Suicide Risk. 
An analysis of 34 years of data from Denmark’s national health registry concerning 7,418,391 individuals found that traumatic brain injury patients have an elevated risk for suicide that can persist for over seven years.

Health Alert: Infant Walkers Still Injuring Babies. 
Baby walkers give infants quick mobility before they are developmentally ready, putting them at greater risk of injury. Despite years of warnings, more than 230,000 children younger than 15 months were seen in the ER between 1990 and 2014 for injuries including skull fractures, concussions, burns, poisoning, and drowning. Senior author Dr. Gary Smith adds, “Baby walkers remain a serious and preventable source of injury to young children and should not be used.”

Past research has found that exercise facilitates the creation of new mitochondria (energy centers of the cells essential for good health) and improves the function of existing mitochondria. Now, a new study has concluded that just two cumulative minutes of high-intensity exercise produces a similar mitochondrial response as 30 minutes of continuous moderate-intensity aerobic exercise.

Following a review of the health records of 295 patients with chronic temporal mandibular dysfunction (TMD) either with or without associated headaches, researchers found that chronic TMD patients with associated headaches have more intense jaw pain and are more likely to report painful sites in the head and neck region upon palpation.

Busy airports and unpredictable air travel can be daunting for parents with children. To help reduce air travel stress, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following: arrive at the airport early, especially when traveling with a younger child; dress your child in shoes and clothing that is easy to remove during security screening, if necessary; talk with your child about what to expect during the security-screening process so that the child knows what will happen; use a safety seat that’s appropriate for the age, weight, and height of your child; children under age two can be held on an adult’s lap, but the academy recommends that each child have their own seat; pack a bag of toys and snacks to keep your child occupied; nursing your infant or giving them a bottle during ascent and decent can help prevent pain from air pressure changes, while offering chewing gum or liquid to an older child can do the same; and wash hands frequently or use hand-washing gel and disinfectant wipes to prevent illness during travel.
