Mental Attitude: Obesity Linked to Lower Mental Wellbeing. 
After reviewing health data concerning over 300,000 middle-aged and older adults, researchers report that a relationship exists between higher body mass index and lower mental wellbeing. Senior study author Dr. Claire Haworth explains, “Frequently individuals are encouraged to lose weight because this will lead to better physical health, but for many this is not motivating enough. Becoming happier and more satisfied with their lives might be the extra motivation needed to encourage more people to maintain a healthy weight.”

Health Alert: Vitamin D Deficiency May Be Risk Factor for Early Death in Senior Males. 
New research suggests maintaining healthy vitamin D levels may help one live a longer life. In this study, researchers reviewed data from national health surveys conducted in 2008 and 2015 and found that older men with deficient vitamin D levels in 2008 had a 77% increased risk of death within the next seven years.

Diet: Produce Consumption and Frailty Risk. 
Frailty is a condition characterized by weakness, slowness, low level of physical activity, self-reported exhaustion, and unintentional weight loss. In this study, researchers found evidence to suggest that seniors who consume more servings of fruits and vegetables per day have a lower risk for becoming frail.

Chiropractic: Chiropractic Care Equals Fewer Injections and Imaging. 
In a study involving 1,702 patients with a new episode of neck pain, researchers found that those who visited a doctor of chiropractic first had less need for opioid drugs, injections, or advanced imaging over the following year than patient whose initial visit was with their primary care physician or a specialist. The authors of the study conclude, “These data provide an initial indication of how following recent practice guidelines may influence healthcare utilization in patients with a new episode of neck pain.”

Wellness/Prevention: Taming Night Terrors. 
Night terrors are often the result of inadequate sleep and or stress. To help reduce your child’s risk for night terrors, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends the following: maintain a stricter sleep schedule; assure your son or daughter that you are there to protect them; encourage them to talk about what happened in the dream with a reminder that dreams are not real; use a night light or a hallway light if it makes him or her more comfortable; determine if anything is scaring your child, such as shadows or wind; and encourage them to go back to sleep when they are ready.
